General Session I - Conversation with John Walsh

Monday, August 14, 9:00am-10:00am

Moderator: Michael Giardino, C.M. (Director of Aviation, Greater Rochester International Airport).

Panelist: John Walsh (Criminal Investigator, Human and Victim Rights Advocate, Creator and Host of America's Most Wanted).

Session Description: Walsh will share moving tales about ordinary people who make an extraordinary impact to illustrate that anyone can make a difference if they direct their passion toward a lifelong cause. With a powerful message urging others to forge ahead despite setbacks, John will inspire the audience to take steps to make the world a better place, and that every mission toward that goal is significant, no matter how great or small.


General Session II - Washington Update

Moderator: James G. Walsh, A.A.E. (Chief Financial Officer, BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport).

Panelists: Scott Brockman (Chairman, AAAE) and Carter Morris (Executive Vice President, AAAE Services, AAAE).

Session Description: It is a critical time in Washington and for airports too. As Congress considers FAA Reauthorization and appropriation bills, AAAE is working hard to have lawmakers hear and heed airports’ voices. This general session will feature AAAE Chairman Scott Brockman and AAAE Senior Vice President Carter Morris. Moderated by NEC President James Walsh, the discussion will be informative and thought provoking. It will begin with a AAAE-produced video presentation on PFCs that should not be missed.


General Session III - Airports in Transition

Monday, August 14, 1:30pm-2:30pm

Moderator: Chad Nixon (Sr. Vice President, McFarland-Johnson, Inc.).

Panelists: Michael Torelli (Manager of Properties and Business Development, Port Authority of NY/NJ, Stewart Int'l Airport) and Wade Davis (Executive Director, Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority).

Session Description: National and regional economic changes along with trends in the aviation industry around the world have created opportunity for some airports and decline for others. Join our subject matter experts for an interactive discussion on how these changes have impacted airports across the Northeast. This session, titled ‘Airports in Transition’ will provide a forum for an exchange of ideas on how to adapt to the ever-changing aviation and air service environment.


General Session IV – Runway Conditions/Digital NOTAM on Trial

Monday, August 14, 3:00pm-4:00am

Moderator: Carlton Braley. Jr., A.A.E. (Assistant Airport Director, Manchester-Boston Regional Airport).

Panelist: Jeff Miller (Operations Manager, Pittsburgh International Airport), Michael Legere (Manager of Operations and Facilities, Manchester-Boston Regional Airport) and Steven Cipolla (Airfield Supervisor, Buffalo International Airport).

Session Description: Representatives from Small, Medium and Large Hubs present through open discussion the Pro’s and Con’s on the Digital NOTAM Manager and Runway Condition Codes. After nearly a year of issuing RCC’s and field conditions utilizing the Digital NOTAM Manager these airports discuss the challenges, the success, and the lessons they have learned. These three airports will discuss the push from FAA to disseminate NOTAMS through the use of the Digital NOTAM Management website and the implementation process they developed. They will identify training procedures that worked, and how well RCC’s and other winter conditions were reported. These three airports will conclude by identifying and discussing with the audience future changes needed from Digital NOTAM Manager and or FAA before the next winter season.


General Session V - TNCs (Uber/Lyft)

Tuesday, August 15, 9:30am-10:30am

Moderator: Carter Morris (Executive Vice President, AAAE Services, AAAE).

Panelists: Don Griffin (Business Development Manager, Lyft) and  Angus Davol (Senior Transportation Planner, San Francisco International Airport).

Session Description: The session will explore airport, industry and Transportation Network Company perspectives on multi-year trends and experience of TNC operations by those who have the longest experience. Specifically, the implementation, best practices, effects on airport operations and revenues will be discussed.


General Session VI - Speed Networking

Tuesday, August 15, 11:00am-12:00pm

Moderators: Manik Arora (President & CEO, Arora Engineers, Inc.), Paul McDonough (VP of Engineering, Rhode Island Airport Corporation) and Terry Kiter (Aviation Group Leader, TY LIN).

Session Description: Connect with fellow members faster than a speeding 787 at our first-ever Speed Networking session on Tuesday, August 15, starting at 11 am. Airport executives, consultants, vendors and contractors will chat one on one for seven minutes, then move into new twosomes for another seven minutes until the hour is up. No awkward introductions or clumsy conversation ending – just focused discussion on the subjects that matter most to you.
